Recently, I wrote a post about Smart Home Technology and ways this trend can add value to your home.  This week I want to focus on some of the more popular features.  In our digital age, when people look to remodel or update their homes, more and more are including these Smart home upgrades. With Smart phone and tablets, being able to access home technology remotely has been taking off when it comes to trends in home renovations. According to a recent study done by Houzz, an online design and remodeling platform, the most popular Smart home features center around security, entertainment and energy conservation.

The study reports that almost half, 45% of home owners, are, or plan to, update their property with Smart features in their home designs. One of the key reasons home owners are adding Smart features is the added benefit of being able to access and control them remotely. 30% of these home owners included a hub, or control center for their Smart products. With a hub, new devices are easier to add. Voice activated features were included in 26% of the homes, bringing ease and convenience.

According to the study by Houzz, the top smart renovation projects include Home Security systems, which were installed in 25% of homes surveyed. Smart Entertainment upgrades were done in 18% of the homes, while 14% of home owners also included climate control features. Smart Thermostats are currently the most popular Smart device being installed in 12% of the homes. This is no surprise, as these products are relatively inexpensive with the benefit in cost savings being significant.

If you are planning to sell your home and considering some upgrades before you list your property, adding in some Smart technology can not only add value to your home, but also help attract more potential buyers. With more Smart home products now available, many buyers are looking for homes with these features already installed.
